USA Wrestling's Folkstyle Tour of America kicked off last weekend in Concord, N.C., and was a big success with over 15 states represented in six different age divisions.

The Carolina Classic was the first event in the newly created Folkstyle Tour of America tournament series. The Series was established by USA Wrestling to provide youth wrestlers a chance to compete against the best in the country in America's most popular style of wrestling.

The Series will continue with the Salt Lake Slam in Salt Lake City, Utah (December 29), the Battle on the Mat in Battle Creek, Mich. (February 2), and the Texas Takedown in Fort Worth, Texas (March 15). For more information on the Folkstyle Tour of America, visit:

"In talking with wrestlers and parents, everyone had a great experience and was excited that USA Wrestling has committed to hosting a major folkstyle event in North Carolina," said Travis Shives, USA Wrestling's Manager of National Events. "The Cabarrus Arena and Events Center was a first-class facility, allowing us to showcase some great young wrestlers.

"We're looking forward to building on this year's tournament with the goal of increasing participation in future years and continuing to establish USA Wrestling in the southeast region of the United States."

The Folkstyle Tour of America is part of USA Wrestling's well-known Ultimate Challenge Series. With the conclusion of the Carolina Classic, there are now 11 events remaining in the 2007-08 Ultimate Challenge Series.
