Asper earns silver at Henri Deglane Challenge in Nice, France

NICE, France – On the first day of competition at the Henri Deglane Challenge, the U.S. earned a silver medal from former Maryland Terrapin standout Josh Asper.
Asper picked up two solid wins over opponents from Spain to start his day at 86 kg/189 lbs., downing 2016 Mediterranean champion Daniel Rama Escribano, 3-0, and scoring a pin over 2016 Junior Mediterranean champion Alejandro Canada Pancorbo to reach the gold-medal match.
In the finals, Asper was outmaneuvered by two-time Junior World medalist Dzianis Khramiankov of Belarus, 11-1, to finish in second place.
Asper was a two-time NCAA All-American, four-time NCAA qualifier and two-time ACC champion at Maryland. Last year, he won a gold medal at the S.A. Lavrikov Championships in Greco-Roman.
The U.S. continues competition from Nice, France, tomorrow with Frank Perrelli taking the mat at 57 kg/125.5 lbs. and Josh Manu giving it a go at 97 kg/213 lbs. Both Perrelli and Manu recently finished in fourth place at the Bill Farrell International held earlier this month.
