Wrestling Mindset, a wrestling-specific mindset training program, has been helping prepare the U.S. Women’s National Team for competition over the past two years.

A systematic program designed by wrestlers for wrestlers, Wrestling Mindset was created to help wrestlers succeed on and off the mat. The program’s coaches work with wrestlers and teams across the country to help them develop and implement mental skills to be a champion in wrestling, school, and in life.

In preparation for the 2015 World Championships and 2016 Olympics, the Women’s National Team participated in weekly workshops by Wrestling Mindset.

Topics included Confidence, Relaxing under Pressure, Mental Toughness, and more. Rather than just listening passively, wrestlers actively took part in the systematic program. The women completed Mindset Exercises & Worksheets for maximal preparation.

“As a coach, you are always looking for the edge that gets your athletes over the top,” said Terry Steiner, U.S. Women’s Freestyle Head Coach. “Jeff Zannetti and Gene Zannetti provide a comprehensive program in the area of Sports Psychology and Mental Training that is essential for success both on the wrestling mat and in the game of life. Although this is one of those intangible areas that is hard to measure, I know for a fact the impact that Wrestling Mindset has had on our overall program.”

With the tools provided by Wrestling Mindset, Coach Steiner and the Women’s National Team were able to perform at their best when it meant the most. In 2015, the Women’s team took third in the World Championships, a win which included two World Champions and one Bronze Medalist. At the 2016 Olympic Games, the Women’s team had its first Olympic champion ever in Helen Maroulis and was fifth in the unofficial team standings.
