18 wrestlers win double titles at 2016 Veterans Nationals after winning freestyle gold in Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – There were 18 double champion, winners of both the Greco-Roman and freestyle tournaments, at the Veterans Nationals this year. On Saturday, these athletes added freestyle golds, after claiming titles in Greco-Roman on Friday.
By division, here are the 2016 Veterans double champion

Four of this year’s double champions also repeated as freestyle champions from last year. That group included Goldman, Clark, Kasser and Hanrahan.
Additional repeat freestyle champions from last year were Brian Cobb of California (Div. B, 85 kg), Eric Cluck of Georgia (Div. C, 85 kg) and Keith Stagg of New Jersey (Div. E, 63 kg).
The tournament grew from last year. In freestyle, there were 174 entries, and 107 entries in the Greco-Roman division. This combined 283 entries shows that Veterans wrestling continues to expand and grow on the national level.
This year also included the first Women’s Veteran champion, Meghann Marchello of Battle Born Girls Wrestling in Div. B at 58 kg.
Many of these athletes may choose to compete at the Veterans World Championships this summer. There is no requirement that Veterans wrestle in the Nationals in order to go the World meet. This year, UWW has split the tournament into two sites, with the Veterans Greco-Roman Worlds in Seinajoki, Finland, Sept. 23-25 and the Veterans Freestyle Worlds in Walbrzych, Poland, October 7-9.

Four of this year’s double champions also repeated as freestyle champions from last year. That group included Goldman, Clark, Kasser and Hanrahan.
Additional repeat freestyle champions from last year were Brian Cobb of California (Div. B, 85 kg), Eric Cluck of Georgia (Div. C, 85 kg) and Keith Stagg of New Jersey (Div. E, 63 kg).
The tournament grew from last year. In freestyle, there were 174 entries, and 107 entries in the Greco-Roman division. This combined 283 entries shows that Veterans wrestling continues to expand and grow on the national level.
This year also included the first Women’s Veteran champion, Meghann Marchello of Battle Born Girls Wrestling in Div. B at 58 kg.
Many of these athletes may choose to compete at the Veterans World Championships this summer. There is no requirement that Veterans wrestle in the Nationals in order to go the World meet. This year, UWW has split the tournament into two sites, with the Veterans Greco-Roman Worlds in Seinajoki, Finland, Sept. 23-25 and the Veterans Freestyle Worlds in Walbrzych, Poland, October 7-9.
