Word came out on Monday that Boise State head coach Greg Randall is not returning as the coach of the Bronco program. Randall has served 14 years as head coach for the Broncos taking over for the 2001-02 season, and served as the assistant coach under Mike Young for nine seasons prior to that.

According to media reports, Boise State Athletic Director Curt Apsey issued this statement. “We want to thank Greg for all his years of service to Boise State and his commitment to our student-athletes. A national search for a new wrestling head coach will begin immediately.”

In an interview with the Idaho Statesman, Randall said, “I feel I did everything I could in the sport. I think it was time. I’d have probably fired myself, too. The wins weren’t there. I’m proud of what I accomplished, and I hope they find someone who can get the job done.”

Although there is no story about this on the Boise State website, it was reported throughout the local media extensively. Randall no longer appears on the Boise State roster as the coach. Assistant Coach Taylor Meeks is serving as the interim coach, and is the only coach listed on the Boise State website.

There is a posting on the NCAA website advertising the head wrestling coach position at Boise State.

Randall led Boise State to four Pac-12 Championships. Randall coached NCAA champion Ben Cherrington in 2006 (157 lbs), plus a number of top All-American stars who continued competing in freestyle including Jason Chamberlain, Adam Hall and Andrew Hochstrasser.
