Isaac Trumble selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week
by Taylor Miller, USA Wrestling
Isaac Trumble (Springfield, Neb./North Carolina State) has been selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on Jan. 26, 2021.
A true freshman for North Carolina State, Trumble made his varsity debut for the Wolfpack in a dual against No. 12 Pittsburgh over the weekend.
He competed at 197 pounds, where he went head-to-head with Pitt junior and fifth-ranked Nino Bonaccorsi. It was a tall order for the true freshman, but the Wolfpack wrestler put together an outstanding performance with a 6-1 victory, thanks, in part, to a dominant second period, where Trumble scored a four-point nearfall en route to a full-period rideout.
Trumble’s win helped NC State to a 27-6 dual win. So far he is 4-0 in college competition.
Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level. Twitter fan votes also play a part in decision.
To nominate a wrestler for this honor please send the athlete's name, wrestling program, weekly accomplishments and career accolades to USA Wrestling Manager of Communications Taylor Miller at tmiller@usawrestling.org.
