Brianna Csontos selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week

Brianna Csontos (Amissville, Va./NYCRTC) has been selected as TheMat.com Athlete of the Week on August 21, 2018.
Csontos was dominant at the 2018 Junior Pan American Championships, helping lead Team USA to a team title last weekend in Fortaleza, Brazil.
Wrestling at 62 kg, Csontos ran through the round-robin bracket, collecting three pins in her four matches for gold.
Csontos opened her tournament with a pair of first-period falls over Meirele Charamba of Brazil in 2:28 and Diana Echgaray Prieto of Peru in 43 seconds.
Canada’s Xiao Liu took Csontos to a full six minutes, which Csontos controlled for a 6-2 victory.
In her final match of the tournament, the Virginia natice took on Paula Montoya Garcia of Colombia, who she stuck in 47 seconds.
As a result of her exciting performance, Csontos was awarded the Golden Boot, given to the tournament's most outstanding wrestler.
Csontos was one of two gold medalists for the U.S. in women’s freestyle and was a big part in getting Team USA atop the podium as the squad put up 172 points for the top spot on the podium, defeating second-place Mexico by 20 points.
Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level. Twitter fan votes also play a part in decision.
