Tim Prescott (McPherson, Kan./St. Cloud State University) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Prescott knocked off top-ranked and returning runner-up T.J. North of Augustana 3-2 in the 125-pound finals to clinch the outright team title for St. Cloud State at the NCAA Division II Championships on Saturday night in St. Louis.
Prescott, a two-time All-American and two-time Academic All-American for Neosho County Community College, was one of six All-Americans for the Huskies. St. Cloud State won its first NCAA title in wrestling and also won the school’s first NCAA title in any sport.
Prescott, a junior, came on strong at the NCAA meet after placing third at the regional tournament two weeks earlier.
Prescott had lost twice to North during the season.
Note: To nominate a wrestler for TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week, send the athlete's name, accomplishments for the week and career accomplishments to USA Wrestling Senior Communications Manager Craig Sesker at csesker@usawrestling.org
