Pat Downey named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week

Pat Downey (Linthicum Heights, Md./Iowa Central CC) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Downey won a national title at 197 pounds to lift Iowa Central Community College to the championship at the NJCAA Junior College Nationals on Saturday in Des Moines.
Downey downed Ihoghama Odighizuwa of Clackamas 9-5 in the 197 finals.
Downey was one of three Iowa Central wrestlers to earn individual championships.
Downey earned a silver medal for the U.S. at the 2012 Junior World Championships and also was a USA Wrestling Junior Nationals champion in freestyle wrestling.
