Aaron Pico (Whittier, Calif./Team USA) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Pico rebounded from a heartbreaking semifinal loss to capture a bronze medal for the U.S. at the United World Wrestling Junior World Championships in Salvador, Brazil.

Pico overpowered 2015 European Junior champion Enus Uslu of Turkey by a 13-4 score to take the bronze at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. in freestyle wrestling. Pico scored the final 13 points of the match to prevail.

Pico earned his third World medal. He won a Cadet World title in 2013 and a Junior World silver medal in 2014.

Pico dropped a 7-7 decision on criteria to Azerbaijan’s Teymur Mammadov in the semifinal round at the 2015 Junior Worlds. Mammadov scored on a pushout with one second left to earn the win.

Pico won his first two matches by technical fall in Brazil.
