Robert Hamlin named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week
by Craig Sesker USA Wrestling
Robert Hamlin (Bethlehem, Pa./Lehigh Valley AC) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Hamlin topped two-time NCAA champion Chris Perry 4-1 in the inaugural Flo Premier League on Saturday night at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.
Hamlin, a two-time NCAA runner-up, trailed 1-0 early in the bout but was able to secure a takedown in both the second and third periods to clinch his second victory against the Perry.
Perry and Hamlin squared off under a new set of hybrid rules utilized specifically for the FPL. These rules combine both aspects of freestyle and folkstyle wrestling.
Note: To nominate a wrestler for TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week, send the athlete's name, accomplishments for the week and career accomplishments to USA Wrestling Senior Communications Manager Craig Sesker at csesker@usawrestling.org
