David Taylor (St. Paris, Ohio/Penn State University) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Taylor was named Outstanding Wrestler and Big Ten Wrestler of the Year after winning his fourth conference title at the 100th Big Ten Wrestling Championships on Sunday in Madison, Wis.

Taylor’s 14-5 major decision over Iowa’s Nick Moore in the 165-pound finals gave the top-ranked Nittany Lions the lead over No. 4 Iowa in the team race. Penn State then clinched its fourth straight league title when senior Ed Ruth won his fourth league title.

Taylor and Ruth became just the 12th and 13th wrestlers to win four Big Ten titles. Penn State edged Iowa 140.5-135 for the team title.

Taylor was named Big Ten Wrestler of the Year for the third time in his amazing career.

Taylor is ranked No. 1 and is undefeated this season. He won a 2012 NCAA title and the Hodge Trophy as the outstanding college wrestler that season. He is a three-time NCAA finalist.

Taylor won a bronze medal for the U.S. at the World University Games in 2013.
