Jarrod Garnett (Newark, Del./Virginia Tech) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
The second-seeded Garnett won the 125-pound title at the Midlands Championships this past weekend in Evanston, Ill.
Garnett beat No. 3 seed Cory Clark of Iowa 10-6 in the semifinals before downing No. 4 seed Jesse Delgado of Illinois 5-1 in overtime in the finals.
Garnett, a senior, moves into sole possession of sixth place in career wins at Virginia Tech with 107. He is 13-1 this season.
Garnett and teammate Nick Brascetta (149) won titles at the Midlands to lead the Hokies to a second-place team finish.
Garnett is a three-time NCAA qualifier. He redshirted during the 2011-12 season.
