Quentin Wright (Wingate, Pa./Nittany Lion WC) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for May 25-31.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Wright dropped the first match before rallying to win the final two bouts over Mack Lewnes in the University World Team Trials freestyle finals at 84 kg/185 lbs. on May 29 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
Wright, a past Junior World Team member, was an All-American for Penn State in 2009 before redshirting this past season. Lewnes was an NCAA runner-up for Cornell in 2010.
Wright won the second match by fall over Lewnes before prevailing in the third match 2-5, 4-1, 5-3.
Champions in each weight class in the University World Team Trials position themselves for a trip to the University World Championships on Oct. 26-30 in Turin, Italy.
Any wrestler who finishes in the top three at this month's U.S. World Team Trials in freestyle, and is eligible for the University division, can challenge the University World Team Trials champion for the spot on the University World Team.
Note: To nominate a wrestler for TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week, send the athlete's name, accomplishments for the week and career accomplishments to Craig Sesker at csesker@usawrestling.org
