Jay Borschel (Marion, Iowa/University of Iowa) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Jan. 5-11.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Borschel was named Outstanding Wrestler of the National Duals after beating four ranked wrestlers and leading top-ranked Iowa to its third consecutive championship in the event.
Borschel beat No. 3 Stephen Dwyer of Nebraska 10-7, No. 9 Nate Lee of Boise State 8-2, No. 18 Scott Glasser of Minnesota 11-3 and No. 13 Duke Burk of Iowa State 10-2.
Borschel, a senior, is ranked No. 1 in the nation at 174 pounds. He is 18-0 this season. He placed third at the 2008 NCAA Championships.
