LIMA, Peru – The United States claimed the Greco-Roman team title and came home with five individual champions and seven medalists at the Pan American U20 Championships on Thursday.

Capturing gold medals for the United States were Pierson Manville (67 kg), Jude Randall (72 kg), Leister Bowling (77 kg), Nick Nosler (87 kg) and Shilo Jones (130 kg).

Manville won four matches, three by pin and one by technical fall. In the championship finals, Manville jumped to a big early lead and nailed a hip toss for a pin in 1:30 over Lucas Marcial Da Silva of Brazil. Manville was awarded the Golden Boot as the Greco-Roman Outstanding Wrestler.

Randall dominated his first three matches of the day, with two technical falls right away, then a pin over Anthony Molina Rubio of Peru in the semifinals. In the gold-medal match, he won a tight 3-1 decision over Jorge Gomez Garcia of Mexico, which ended with an extended challenge that went Randall’s way.

Bowling opened with a pair of technical falls over Vincent Echavarry of Puerto Rico in the quarterfinals and Mauro Resendiz Dominguez of Mexico. In the finals, Bowling broke open a close match against Alonso Parra Garcia of Colombia with a four-point lift and throw which he finished off with a pin in 4:12. Bowling has been dominant this year, with all bonus point wins in the U20 Nationals, the U20 World Team Trials and the Pan American Championships.

Nosler have five wins on the way to the title, winning three matches in his group, then powering through the semifinals and finals to earn the gold medal. In the championship finals, Nosler scored all five of his points in the first period, including two gut wrench turns, and beat Cesar Veliz Perez of Mexico, 5-1.

Jones won a five-athlete round robin with dominance, scoring three technical falls in a row, and finishing off the tournament with a pin in 1:34 over Malcom Nomel Lizana of Chile. Jones only allowed one point in his four victories. He beat eventual runner-up Ibrack Angulo Castillo of Ecuador in a 10-0 technical fall.

Also winning medals for the United States were silver medalist Quinlan Morgan (97 kg) and bronze medalist Gavin Ricketts (82 kg).

Morgan went 3-1 in a four-athlete round robin, losing his first match, then powering through the rest of the field with a pin and two technical falls.

Ricketts won Group A with two straight technical fall victories. He was edged in the semifinals by Mayci Flores Ayala of Peru, 3-1, then came back with a dominant 12-0 technical fall in the bronze-medal bout over Santiago Valenzuela Mendez of Chile in just 49 seconds.

The United States scored 188 points to win the team title, with Mexico in second with 167 points and Peru in third place with 131 points.

The competition continues on Friday with the women’s freestyle competition.
