Tessa Plana (Coppell, Texas/Oklahoma City University) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Oct. 13-19.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Plana, a sophomore, went 4-0 at 63 kg/138.75 lbs. as the Oklahoma City University women's team won four duals over the weekend. OCU rallied to defeat Cumberlands (Ky.) 21-16 on Oct. 17 at Abe Lemons Arena. The Stars (4-0) also beat Jamestown (N.D.) 31-10, Jamestown Black 43-3 and Cumberlands White 34-9.
In the close win over the Cumberlands, Plana turned the dual around with a pin of Breisja Macera to tie the score 12-12.
Plana went 23-11 as a freshman with 12 pins. She won the Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association national title.
