Alex Gomez named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for March 24-30

Alex Gomez (Bakersfield, Calif./Elite Force) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for March 24-30.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Gomez captured a gold medal for the second straight year in the high school division at the USA Wrestling Girls Folkstyle National Championships, held in Freede Center at Oklahoma City University on March 28.
Gomez pinned nationally respected Keiko Akamine of Hawaii in 3:10 in the finals at 102 pounds. Akamine was third at this event last year, and fourth at the Junior Nationals in freestyle.
Gomez opened the tournament with a 9-1 major decision over Ashley Iliff of New Jersey, then pinned Sarah Hildebrand of Indiana in the semifinals in 1:29.
