Gerald Ponce named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Sept. 23-29

Gerald Ponce (Antioch, Calif.) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Sept. 23-29.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Ponce won a gold medal in freestyle wrestling at the Veterans World Championships on Sept. 26 in Perm, Russia.
Ponce, of Antioch, Calif., won the championship in Division E (56 years and older) at 130 kg/286 lbs. Earlier in the week, Ponce earned a silver medal in Greco-Roman wrestling at the Veterans World Championships.
