Boston University's Mike Roberts named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week

Mike Roberts (Albany, N.Y./Boston University) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Dec. 25-31.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday.
The unranked Roberts, a junior 149-pounder, turned in a stunning performance as he knocked off the nation's No. 1 and No. 2 ranked wrestlers to earn the Outstanding Wrestler award at the Southern Scuffle on Dec. 29-30 in Greensboro, N.C.
Roberts, who went 1-2 at the 2007 NCAA Championships for Boston University, pinned second-ranked Darrion Caldwell of North Carolina State in the second round of the Southern Scuffle. He capped his six-win march to the title by edgeing top-ranked Dustin Schlatter of Minnesota 3-2 in the finals. Schlatter won an NCAA title in 2006.
Roberts was a New York state champion in high school and won Junior Nationals in Greco-Roman in 2004.
