Deron Winn (Liberty, Mo./St. Louis Community College-Meramec) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Feb. 19-25.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday.
Winn was named Outstanding Wrestler after recording three technical falls and a pin to win the 184-pound title at the National Junior College Athletic Association Championships on Feb. 23 in Rochester, Minn.
Winn beat Nathan Clements from host Rochester 22-7 in the finals. Winn led Meramec to a second-place team finish in the national tournament.
Winn was a three-time Missouri state high school champion. He won numerous USA Wrestling national titles at the Junior, Cadet and Schoolboy levels.
