T.J. Miller (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Wartburg College) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Feb. 27-March 5.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday.
Miller, son of Wartburg College coach Jim Miller, won the 197-pound title on March 3 at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships at the Five Flags Center in Dubuque, Iowa. Miller's four wins at nationals consisted of three major decisions and a technical fall. He capped a 26-0 season by beating Buena Vista's Ben Strandberg 11-3 in the 197 finals.
Miller, a junior, joined his father as a national champion. Jim Miller was a two-time NCAA Division II champion at the University of Northern Iowa.
T.J. Miller and national champion Blake Gillis (heavyweight) led Wartburg to a second-place team finish at the NCAA Division III meet. The Knights have placed first or second at nationals in 13 of the past 15 years.
Miller placed fourth at nationals as a sophomore and is 72-7 in his collegiate career.
