Clayton Rush (Aledo, Ill./Team Illinois) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for June 26-July 2.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday.
Rush knocked off three of the nation's best wrestlers en route to compiling a 9-0 record at 119 pounds as Team Illinois won the championship at the Junior National Greco-Roman Duals. He made the all-tournament team.
Rush beat top-ranked high school wrestler Zach Sanders 3-0, 0-3, 2-1 to spark Team Illinois to a 38-23 win over Team Minnesota in the Junior National finals on June 29 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Rush earlier beat past Junior Nationals runner-up Donte Butler of Missouri 5-3, 6-0 and scored a 5-3, 3-1 win over past Cadet Nationals champion Andrew Long of Iowa.
Rush, a Coe College recruit, is a two-time Illinois state high school champion.
