USA begins action in Warsaw at Poland Open

WARSAW, Poland -- The 27th Poland Open got under way in Warsaw, Poland, early Thursday morning. Two athletes opened the action in women’s freestyle in Jaslynn Gallegos (50 kg) and Marissa Gallegos (53 kg).
Jaslynn Gallegos went 2-2 on the day, placing fifth and tallying 24 points for the United States’ team score. In her first match, Gallegos won by fall over her opponent from Australia. The second round match saw Gallegos drop to an opponent from Canada by fall. She rallied back in her next match and pinned her opponent from Lithuania after leading 8-0 throughout the first few minutes. Gallegos dropped a 12-5 decision to an opponent from Italy in her final match.
Marissa Gallegos placed seventh and contributed 14 points to the United States’ team score. She held a record of 1-2 at the event, winning her first bout by 10-0 technical fall against an opponent from Germany. Her next two matches saw her fall by 8-1 decision against a Polish opponent and an injury default against a Canadian opponent.
The event continues on Friday with action slated to begin at 11 a.m. local time with the following weights competing: 55 kg, 57 kg, 59 kg, 62 kg, 65kg, 68 kg. Live video and results can be found here.
