GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) — The Atlantic Coast Conference has announced pre-seeds and brackets for the 2022 ACC Wrestling Championship, which will be held this Sunday (March 6) at John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Three-time defending ACC champion NC State and Virginia Tech each have three No. 1 pre-seeds in their respective brackets, and North Carolina and Pitt earned two each.

Each weight class champion and runner-up at the 2022 ACC Championship will earn All-ACC recognition. In addition to ACC honors, student-athletes will be vying for berths and seeding in the 2022 NCAA Wrestling Championships, which will be held March 17-19 at Detroit’s Little Caesar’s Arena. The ACC has been allotted a league-record 39 automatic berths and is hopeful of earning several more at-large selections.

The ACC placed three teams among the top 20 of last week’s final regular-season NWCA Top-25 Coaches Poll with NC State at No. 4, Virginia Tech at No. 8 and North Carolina at No. 23. Pitt was among the teams receiving votes.

Eight defending ACC champions are expected to compete at this year’s Championship, though four – NC State’s Tariq Wilson (149), North Carolina’s Austin O’Connor (157) and NC State’s Hayden Hidlay (174) all moved up to compete in heavier weight classes this season.

This year’s ACC Championship will also feature a pair of recent NCAA Champions in North Carolina’s O’Connor (gold medal at 149 pounds in 2021) and Virginia Tech’s 174-pound Mekhi Lewis (gold medal at 165 in 2019).

Tickets are now on sale for Sunday’s all-day championship, and all seats are general admission. All attendees 12 years of age and older are required to provide proof of vaccination or of a negative COVID-19 test result for entry. All attendees must wear a mask while inside John Paul Jones Arena except when they are actively eating or drinking.

First-round action kicks off the event at 11 a.m. The semifinals are set for 1 p.m., followed by the consolation semifinals at 3:30 p.m. and the consolation finals at 5 p.m. Championship matches begin at 7 p.m., followed by the awards presentation.

ACC Network and ACC Network Extra plan nearly 10 hours of live coverage from 11 a.m. through 9 p.m. ACC Network Extra will stream the early and consolations rounds from both Mat 1 and Mat 2, with the 7 p.m. finals set for live linear broadcast on ACC Network. Watch links for all rounds will be posted at theACC.com when they become available.
