Junior Beach Nationals to be held alongside Junior Nationals in Fargo, N.D. this summer for the first time in history

by Ellen Paddock, USA Wrestling

USA Wrestling will host an unprecedented Beach Wrestling event in conjunction with Junior Nationals in Fargo, N.D on July for the first time in history. The schedule corresponds to Junior Nationals, allowing all athletes to participate in both tournaments. It will be called the Fargo Summer Showcase and 16U/Junior Beach Nationals. There will be different competitions hosted on four days, based upon the specific age group.

This event is a stop on the Beach Tour of America where points are accumulated among placers and participants at each tournament. The wrestler with the highest cumulative score is crowned the Tour Champion.

There will be opportunities to wrestle out on the sand in Fargo for all ages and skill levels. On Friday, July 15 the event is open to local wrestlers in the following age divisions: 8U-14U, Senior Men and Senior Women and Masters Men and Women's. On Saturday, July 17, the 16U Beach championships for men and women will take place. The Junior Men’s Beach competition is Monday, July 18 and Junior Women’s Beach competition is on Thursday, July 21. (Please note the start time for each event, as they differ).

The event will be held at a unique location, Gastropub Volleyball, which is located at 3234 43rd St S in Fargo, ND 58104.

The most recent stop on the Beach Tour of America was in Nashville, Tennessee at the Music City Beach Bash where athletes from ten different states were represented. The next event is this week, the Rocket City Rumble Beach Blowout in Huntsville, Ala. on June 30. After the Summer Showcase event in Fargo, there will be events in Iowa, Kentucky, Ohio and Missouri with more stops to be announced. The schedule is listed below.

Beach Wrestling provides the perfect environment for fun and intense competition. It improves skills for all styles, and it opens the door for overseas opportunities. The international wrestling federation, United World Wrestling (UWW), is working to add Beach Wrestling for women at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. This would allow wrestling to reach gender equity in the Olympics while continuing its commitment to the Greco-Roman style.
