ROME, Italy – The six U.S. women’s freestyle wrestlers who will compete at the Matteo Pellicone Ranking Event in Rome this week have received their draws.

2022 U.S. Senior World Team member Abigail Nette will over against 2021 European bronze medalist Kateryna Zhydachevska of Romania in her opening bout at 59 kg.

The other five U.S. wrestlers competing in Italy qualified for the U.S. Senior National Team based upon their placement in the World Team Trials qualifying process.

Two U.S. wrestlers, Final X runner-up and 2022 Pan American champion Skylar Grote and 2022 World Team Trials Challenge Tournament bronze medalist Marilyn Garcia are both in a five-athlete round robin at 72 kg. Grote and Garcia are scheduled to wrestle each other, as well as three other competitors. Amont them are two-time Senior World bronze medalist Anna Schell of Germany and 2018 U23 World silver medalist Alexandra Anghel of Romania.

Another 2022 Final X runner-up, two-time NCWWC national champion Yelena Makoyed, will compete at 76 kg, and has a four-athlete round robin. All three of her opponents are accomplished, including 2022 World silver medalist Epp Mae of Estonia, 2019 European silver medalist Martina Kuenz of Austria and 2021 University World champion Francy Raedelt of Germany.

Emma Bruntil, who was third in the World Team Trials process, also has a round robin of five athletes at 65 kg. Among the stars she will face are 2019 European champion Tetiana Rizhko of Ukraine, 2021 U23 World silver medalist Kateryna Zelenykh of Ukraine and 2019 European runner-up Kriszta Incze of Romania.

At 57 kg, Amanda Martinez, who is third on the National Team, opens up against 2019 Junior World champion Patrycja Gil of Poland.

Martinez and Makoyed will compete on Thursday, while Nette, Bruntil, Garcia and Grote all wrestle on Friday. Rome is six hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time zone. Three Greco-Roman weight classes will be held on Thursday, completing that tournament.

The event is being broadcast live by FloWrestling.
