King leads December NWCA women's wrestling poll, new individual rankings posted

MANHEIM, PA – The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced their December set of NCAA Women’s Wrestling Coaches Rankings. The top five remained the same, and King University remained at the top.

King has extended the gap between the top two teams, the Tornado and McKendree, as the Tornado have 102 points in the latest poll to McKendree’s 85. North Central College comes in third with 71 points while Simon Fraser University is fourth at 63 points. Colorado Mesa University and Augsburg College are tied for the fifth spot with 48 points.

New individual rankings were also posted this week.

King has 15 individuals ranked and is the only team to have an individual ranked at each of the ten weight classes. McKendree has 12 ranked individuals, while North Central is the only other team with at least ten individuals ranked with 11.

McKendree has three individuals ranked atop their weight classes, Cameron Guerin at 130 pounds, Alara Boyd at 155 pounds, and Sydnee Kimber at 191 pounds. Augsburg is the only other school with multiple individuals ranked No. 1 in their respective weight classes. Emily Shilson stayed atop the 109-pound rankings while Katie Lange had a big month and went from unranked to No. 1 at 143 pounds.

The NWCA will release regional and national wrestlers of the month in the first week of December. The regional awards will be released on January 5, with the national award coming out on January 7.
