Participants, spectators must wear masks at World Team Trials due to local health department indoor mandate

by Gary Abbott, USA Wrestling

USA Wrestling has been informed that the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department has issued an indoor mask mandate from August 26 through September 30.

USA Wrestling will be hosting the Senior World Team Trials at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Neb., Sept. 11-12, which is within the jurisdiction of the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department.

This means that all people involved with the World Team Trials, including athletes, coaches, event staff, media, spectators and all others, must wear a mask while inside Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Athletes wrestling in the event will not need to wear a mask while competing or actively warming up for the competition. One of the exceptions to the mask mandate is for "those exercising." Wrestlers will be required to wear a mask when not competing or warming up.

This Directed Health Measure (DMH) "will require all individuals ages two and older – regardless of vaccination status – to wear a mask when they are in an indoor space."

According to the announcement released by the local health department, the reason for the DMH is "to respond to an increase in COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths."

To read the full announcement, read this posting from the local government:
Mask requirement begins Thursday

For those attending, the list of exceptions to the DHM are:

• Individuals eating or drinking or seated to eat or drink

• Those exercising

• Those engaged in an occupation that prevents the wearing of a mask

• Those obtaining a service or purchasing goods or services that requires the temporary removal of the mask

• A person giving a speech, lecture, or broadcast to an audience as long as six feet of distance from other individuals is maintained

• Those individuals who cannot otherwise wear a mask because of a medical condition, a mental health condition, or a disability that prevents the wearing of masks

• Courts of law; meetings or sessions of the Nebraska Legislature; individuals accessing federal, state, county, or city government services; congregate living settings; group homes and residential drug and/or mental health treatment facilities; or shelters
