Dreshaun Ross named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week

Dreshaun Ross (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Team Iowa) was named as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on July 25.


Ross won titles at the USMC 16U Nationals in both freestyle and Greco-Roman at 195 pounds in Fargo, N.D. He was one of only two 16U athletes to win the 2023 16U Triple Crown, along with Iowa teammate Kyler Knaack at 152 pounds. Ross and Knaack also won the 2023 16U Folkstyle Nationals title in April, the first leg of the Triple Crown.


Over the course of the two tournaments in Fargo, Ross won all 11 of his matches by technical fall, outscoring his opponents by a 107-4 margin. He outscored his Greco-Roman opponents 50-0 and his freestyle opponents 57-4.


In men’s freestyle, he had five technical falls, including a 16-4 victory over Jake Conroy of Pennsylvania in the finals. Other wrestlers he defeated by technical fall were Logan Whitacre of Arizona, Samuel Stockton of Colorado, Jaxon Penovich of llinois and David Calkins of California.


In Greco-Roman, he had six technical falls, including a 9-0 victory over David Calkins of California in the finals. The other Greco-Roman opponents who he defeated by technical fall were Bryson Poindexter of Oklahoma, Jake Bott of Utah, Josh Hoffer of Illinois, Standford Thompson of Tennessee and Jaxon Penovich of Illinois.


Ross currently has a No. 9 national wrestling by FloWrestling. He was also a 16U Nationals freestyle champion last year, and has won a U17 Nationals title in Greco-Roman, and U15 Nationals titles in both styles. He was a 2023 Iowa state high school champion for Fort Dodge High School.
