Amit Elor (Walnut Creek, Calif./Titan Mercury WC) has been selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on Oct. 25, 2022.
Over the weekend, Elor secured a gold medal at the U23 World Championships in Spain, becoming the first U.S. wrestler to win three UWW World titles in one season. Earlier this summer, Elor won her second-consecutive U20 gold medal and later dominated her division at the Senior World Championships, where, at 18 years old, she became the youngest American in USA Wrestling history to win Senior gold.
In Spain, Elor made easy work of the 72 kg bracket, surrendering just two points throughout the week. She opened with back-to-back pins over opponents from France and Romania. She led 2021 U23 World silver medalist Kendra Dacher of France, 13-2, at the time of the pin, 5:30, and defeated Romania’s Maria Nitu in just 34 seconds. In the finals, Elor faced two-time age-group World bronze medalist Wiktoria Choluj of Poland, whom she blanked, 11-0, for the title.
Overall, Elor owns five UWW World titles and one World bronze medal in her short career.
Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level.
To nominate a wrestler for this honor please send the athlete's name, wrestling program, weekly accomplishments and career accolades to USA Wrestling Manager of Communications and Social Media Taylor Gregorio at tgregorio@usawrestling.org.
