Evan Wick (San Luis Obispo, Calif./Titan Mercury WC) has been selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on December 21, 2022.

Wick competed on the U.S. men’s and women’s team which competed against Ukraine in the Beat the Streets Los Angeles International Event in San Marino, Calif., Dec. 18.

Wick was competing in his hometown, as he attended high school in San Marino. He was impressive in the second period on the way to an 8-2 win over 2022 World bronze medalist Vasyl Mykhailov. Trailing 2-1 at the break, Wick scored three second-period takedowns to break the match open.

Wick helped Team USA to a 5-4 win over Ukraine in the friendly dual meet, which raised funds for youth in the Los Angeles area. Beat the Streets LA was founded 10 years ago with a mission to empower and transform the lives of youth through wrestling.

Wick was an NCAA All-American for both Cal Poly and Wisconsin. He won a CIF state high school title for San Marino High School. Wick was fourth in the 2020 Olympic Team Trials, and was twice fourth at the U.S. Senior Nationals.

Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level.

To nominate a wrestler for this honor please send the athlete's name, wrestling program, weekly accomplishments and career accolades to USA Wrestling Director of Communications Gary Abbott at gabbott@usawrestling.org.
