Ed Scott (DuBois, Pa./North Carolina State) has been selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on Dec. 22, 2021.
A freshman for the Wolfpack, Scott went 3-0 at 157 pounds at the Collegiate Duals in Niceville, Fla., earlier this week. Entering the event ranked No. 23 in the nation, Scott earned two wins over higher-ranked opponents.
In NC State’s first dual, Scott defeated Binghamton’s Tyler Martin with a dominant 18-1 technical fall. He followed up that performance with a 3-2 decision against No. 15 Jarrett Jacques from Missouri. Finally, Scott ended his tournament with a bang, pinning All-American and eighth-ranked Kaleb Young of Iowa in the first period.
Scott’s efforts helped the Wolfpack to a second-place finish on their side of the bracket after falling in an epic showdown against Iowa.
Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level.
To nominate a wrestler for this honor please send the athlete's name, wrestling program, weekly accomplishments and career accolades to USA Wrestling Manager of Communications and Social Media Taylor Miller at tmiller@usawrestling.org.
