Ten Greco-Roman Champions Crowned on Day One of U17 Pan American Team Trials

NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa – The opening day of the 2026 U17 Pan American Team Trials concluded with ten Greco-Roman champions crowned.

The U17 Pan American Championship men’s team will be decided on Saturday, following the men’s freestyle portion of the event. Athletes with the highest combined point total at each weight class in both Greco-Roman and freestyle will make up Team USA for the 2026 Pan American Championships in Panama City, Panama, in April.

Each of the ten champions from today’s Greco-Roman action are in the driver’s seat heading into tomorrow’s men’s freestyle portion of the trials with 10 points toward their overall trials scores.

Rylen Wax capped off his unbeaten afternoon in the 45 kg round robin with a pin just after the start of the second period to capture the title. Wax was the lone wrestler to pin their opponent to secure the championship.

In the final two round robin brackets at 92 kg and 110 kg, Salah Tsarni and Lucas Feuerbach captured the gold medals with perfect afternoons. Tsarni finished 3-0 at 92 kg with all three victories coming via technical fall and outscoring his opposition 26-2. At 110 kg, Feuerbach secured the only pin in the bracket en route to the championship and a 3-0 mark on the day.

Five of the six first-place bouts in the second championship session ended via technical fall.

Lucas Forman (48 kg), Cooper Mathews (60 kg), Joaquin Chacon (65 kg) and Justus Heeg (71 kg) each shutout their opponents in the championship round. Forman, who shutout each of his opponents on the day, recorded his 8-0 technical fall just 40 seconds into the contest. Mathews and Heeg both posted 8-0 wins in the second period of their matches, while Chacon earned his 9-0 victory with 34 seconds left in the first period.

Duane Leslie rounded out the technical falls in the finals with a 13-3 match at 80 kg. Leslie notched his victory eight seconds before the break. After winning by decision in his first match, Leslie won each of his final three matches in the opening frame.

Evan Restivo capped off the Greco-Roman champions at 51 kg with a 7-1 decision. In his four matches on the day, Restivo only surrendered three points total and won three matches by technical fall.

The nine champions from the evening session joined 55 kg champion Ray Long, who won his title in the first session of the day.
