Long Captures Greco-Roman Title; Nine Additional U17 Pan American Team Trials Finals On Tap

NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa – Ray Long captured the Greco-Roman title at 55 kg during the opening session of day one at the 2026 U17 Pan American Team Trials at The Palestra.

Long moved into the finals following a technical fall in the semifinals. He was crowned champion after his scheduled championship opponent injury defaulted from the tournament.

Long, along with the nine champions from the evening session, will be in the driver’s seat heading into tomorrow’s men’s freestyle portion of the trials with 10 points toward their qualification score. Athletes with the highest combined point total at each weight class in both Greco-Roman and freestyle will earn a spot on Team USA for the 2026 Pan American Championships in Panama City, Panama, in April.

A trio of round robins are scheduled to wrap up in the evening session at 45 kg, 92 kg and 110 kg. U15 Pan American champion Rylen Wex leads the round robin at 45 kg following a trio of technical falls. At 92 kg, Sala Tsarni and Kannon Freschette are both 2-0 and battle in the final round of the bracket. Lucas Feuerbach is the lone unbeaten left in the 110 kg round robin.

Two-time U15 Pan American champion Evan Restivo is one of the finalists at 51 kg and will take on Garrett Bjerga.

Justus Heeg, who medaled in both Greco-Roman and freestyle at the 2024 Pan Am Championships, in the finals at 71 kg and takes on Aiden Arnett.

The final championship matches feature Lucas Forman and Jack Thrush at 48 kg, Oliver Pulliam takes on Cooper Mathews at 60 kg, Kameron Green Jr. faces Joaquin Chacon at 65 kg and the 80 kg features Ryder Schulte going up against Duane Leslie.

The final session will feature first and third place bouts at each of the nine remaining weight classes.
