NICE, France – Team USA has received its draw for the 21-man squad competing in the men’s freestyle competition at the 52nd annual Henri Deglane Grand Prix of France on Saturday at The Halle des Sports Charles-Ehrmann in Nice, France.

Leading the American team this weekend is 2024 Olympian Mason Parris at 125 kg. The 2025 World bronze medalist will be in Group B of the round robin in the seven-man weight class. Parris’ first match of the weekend comes against fellow American Coby Merrill. Merrill is the 2022 U17 World bronze medalist in Greco-Roman. This is a rematch of the Bill Farrell Memorial International finals from last November, won by Parris, 10-1.

Joining Parris and Merrill in Group B at 125 kg is 2024 Olympian Jonovan Smith of Puerto Rico, who was fifth at last year’s World Championships.

Michael Macchiavello returns to the tournament after winning gold at the event last year. Macchiavello is competing at 92 kg, where his two round robin matches come against Switzerland’s Samuel Scherrer, who is a three-time World Championships veteran, plus two-time U23 World medalist Ion Demian of Moldova.

Joining Macchiavello at 92 kg is three-time U23 World medalist Jacob Cardenas. His round robin group includes Teimuraz Kochkiani of Georgia, Daniel Fischer of Germany and Serghei Vizii of Moldova.

2017 U17 World champion Will Lewan highlights the 74 kg division for the U.S. He opens with Spain’s Fabricio Reyes Torres in the quarterfinals of the bracket.

Veteran competitors Austin DeSanto and Nathan Tomasello are paired together in Group A of the 61 kg round robin and face each other to start the tournament. The two wrestled last weekend at RAF 05 with DeSanto winning by technical fall, 11-1.

First round opponents for each U.S. entrant are available below.

2025 World Team member David Carr and 2021 U20 World bronze medalist Beau Bartlett were originally slated to compete but will not wrestle in France.
