2025 World Championships Day Seven Match Notes

The 2025 Senior World Championships continue on Friday from Arena Zagreb in Zagreb, Croatia. Today will feature Greco-Roman group one (55-77-82-130 kg) repechage and medal matches, plus Greco-Roman group two (60-72-97 kg) preliminary rounds. Updates and results from each Team USA match can be found below.



10:30 a.m. – Qualification Rounds (GR 60-72-97 kg), Repechage (GR 55-77-82-130 kg)

4:45 p.m. – Semifinals (GR 60-72-97 kg)

6 p.m. – Medal Matches (GR 55-77-82-130 kg)

Double overhook toss for Melia in the first 25 seconds to take the early 4-0 lead. Melia gets a chance on top from passivity, and locks up two turns to end it, 9-0, midway through the first period.


Bey strikes right out of the gate, ducks under for a takedown in the first 15 seconds, 2-0. Bey steps out at 3:46 to make it 2-1, Bey. Bey is put down for passivity at 3:35, now 2-2. Yilmaz lifts but can’t get the leverage for a throw attempt, and we are back standing. The period ends 2-2 with Bey leading on criteria. Back and forth pressure battle, both guys go for a step out, it’s scored one point for Yilmaz, who now holds the lead, 3-2. Looked like there might be a challenge, but it’s taken off the board. Bey comes back to the center hobbling a bit with 2:12 to go. Bey is put down in par terre a second time. Yilmaz doesn’t convert any points from top. Bey dives in again and goes for a toss of the matt, scored two to tie it up, 4-4. Yilmaz’s corner challenging the call with 25 seconds left. The action is deemed an offensive leg foul, wiping Bey’s points off the board. Bey with a huge flurry as time runs down but he can’t secure a hold. Yilmaz wins it, 4-2.


Sultangali gets the first opportunity on top at 4:23, leading 1-0. Gutwrench locked up and Sultangali gets a turn, then adds a four-point lift. It’s 7-0 just under two minutes in. That’s the score at the break. Sultangali hit for passivity to start the second and Black gets his shot on top. Nothing doing for Black. It’s 7-1 midway through the second frame. The match runs to the finish with no additional points.


Foy drives to an underhook, Venckaitis throws a headlock, Foy covers, but it’s called a slip. Foy was about to be called for passivity, but he counters a Venckaitis attack, floating hips over the top for a takedown and early 2-0 lead. A high dive takedown for Foy to go up 4-0. Fresh start with 1:40 to go. Foy finishes off the match, 4-0.


Sancho going down to force par terre at the 4:11 mark, 1-0 Ghanem. Ghanem attempts a low gut, and Sancho holds him off nicely. Back to standing at 3:41. That’ll do it for one. Ghanem presses forward, Sancho trips, Ghanem covers but it’s white paddled and blown up. Sancho is being put down a second time at the 2:03 mark, now 2-0. Ghanem doesn’t get a turn again. Ghanem drives Sancho out for a 3-0 lead with just over a minute to go. Another step out point for Ghanem with 42 seconds left, 4-0. That’s the match.


Left side underhook, Bey drives Bernatek out-of-bounds at 5:14, 1-0 Bey. Bernatek will get the first chance on top at 4:23, score tied up at one apiece. Bernatek jumps out to a front headlock, Bey stands up with it, Bernatek goes for the roll and Bey counters for a reversal point. Now 2-1 with a fresh start at 3:57. Bernatek drives Bey straight off the mat to tie it 2-2. It’s 2-2 at the break, Bernatek with criteria. Bey presses for a step out, which is called by the mat official, but not confirmed. It’s 2-2 with 2:33 to go. Bey ducks under the left side and transitions right into a gutwrench going off the mat to take a 6-2 lead with 2:17 to go. Bernatek knocks Bey in the face, he’s shaken up. Another duck left side for Bey off Bernatek’s pressure to take an 8-2 lead. Bernatek is giving up with 20 seconds left, just stopped wrestling. A caution and two awarded to Bey for unnecessary roughness. Bernatek is challenging the call with 10 seconds left, loses it, and Bey wins by technical fall, 11-2.
