Adriana Gomez (Laveen, Ariz./Colorado Mesa WC) has been named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week, presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare, on October 1, 2025.
Gomez won two medals in women’s Beach Wrestling in Katerini, Greece, claiming a bronze medal at 50 kg at the U20 Beach World Championships on September 26 and a bronze medal in the Senior Beach World Series Katerini at 50 kg on September 27.
At the U20 level, Gomez was perfect in the bronze-medal match. She used her speed and slick technique to get behind Rebeca Leanca of Romana three times, driving her down for a takedown each time and 3-0 shutout victory.
Gomez won Group B with three victories without giving up a single point. She beat Rebeca Leana of Romania, Natalia Obradinov of Serbia and Mia Cabrera of the United States in Group competition, all by 3-0 margins. Her only loss in the U20 Beach World Championships came in the semifinals, where she was edged 3-2 by eventual champion Ana Maria Rotaru of Romania.
In Beach World Series Katerini, Gomez defeated past Beach World champion Stefania Ivascu Priceputu of Romania, 1-0, in the bronze-medal match. Gomez forced Ivascu to touch her knee during a scramble position midway through the match for the only point of the bout.
Gomez opened the tournament with three impressive wins in Group A. In order, Gomez stopped Alevtyna Liashenko of Ukraine, 3-1, Exdoxia Palidou of Greece, 3-0 and Yuliia Zasulska of Ukraine, 3-2. Her only loss in Beach World Series Katerini came in the semifinals, when she was edged by Aikaterini Vekri of Greece, 3-2. Gomez scored the first two points of the match on effective techniques, but Vekri rebounded with three one-point scoring moves.
Gomez finished the two tournaments by winning eight of her 10 matches, including six matches where she did not allow a single point to be scored upon her.
Gomez won the Senior division at the 2025 U.S. Beach Nationals, and also placed second in the U20 division, which qualified her for the U20 Beach World Team. She is a redshirt sophomore at Colorado Mesa University, where she was an NCWWC qualifier in 2023 as a freshman. Gomez was third in the 2023 Arizona Girls State High School Championships at 114 pounds for Basha High School, and was a three-time state placewinner. She was a two-time placewinner at the USA Wrestling Junior Folkstyle Nationals, placing fifth in 2023 and eighth in 2022.
