MONTERREY, Mexico – The United States closed out a strong performance on the final day of women’s freestyle at the 2025 Senior Pan American Championships on Saturday night, with two gold medals, a silver medal, a bronze medal and the team title.
Winning gold medals with strong performances were University of Iowa teammates and Senior World medalists Macey Kilty (65 kg) and Kylie Welker (76 kg).
Kilty closed out her 3-0 record in a four-athlete round robin with a 10-0 technical fall over Miki Rowbottom of Canada. In her three matches, Kilty had two 10-0 technical falls and a pin in 23 seconds.
Welker showed great determination in her 8-1 victory over Thamires Martins Machado of Brazil in the finals, which was a hard-fought physical match. Welker led 2-0 in the second period after Martins went on the shot clock twice. After Welker gave up a shot clock point to make it 2-1, a clutch Welker takedown with 50 seconds left made it 4-1. She added four late points as Martins make last-minute attacks.
In a highly competitive weight class, Welker also beat Linda Machuca of Argentina 8-2 and Genesis Reasco Valdez of Ecuador by technical fall, 10-0.
2022 Senior World Team member Abigail Nette won a silver medal in a three-athlete round robin at 59 kg. She finished the tournament strong with a powerful 11-0 technical fall over Alma Jane Valencia Escoto of Mexico. Nette led 4-0 at the break, and closed it out with second period takedown and turns. Nette lost to Laurence Beauregard of Canada, 6-3 in her only morning bout.
Claiming a bronze medal at 53 kg was Jaslynn Gallegos, who opened up her offense in a 16-4 technical fall over 2024 U23 World silver medalist Serena DiBenedetto of Canada to finish the tournament. Gallegos finished off the victory with a big four-pointer.
The USA finished the 2025 Senior Pan American Championships with nine women’s freestyle medals, including five gold medals, two silver medals and two bronze medals. Claiming gold medals for Team USA on Friday were Audrey Jimenez (55 kg), 2024 Olympic silver medalist Kennedy Blades (68 kg) and Tiffani Baublitz (72 kg). Louisa Schwab (55 kg) added a silver medal, and Amanda Martinez (57 kg) won a bronze medal on Friday.
