Abas, Stemmet to compete at Sassari City Matteo Pellicone Memorial on June 7

The United States will be represented by two athletes in men’s freestyle at the 2025 Sassari City Matteo Pellicone Memorial in Sassari, Italy, on Saturday. The one-day event takes place at the Palestra Gigi Santoru.
At 70 kg, two-time NCAA All-American Jaden Abas is set to compete in his first international freestyle tournament. Abas placed third at the 2018 Junior Nationals in Fargo, N.D., and was the runner-up in freestyle at the 2016 16U Nationals.
Nick Stemmet, competing at 92 kg in Italy, is a 2023 U23 Nationals champion in freestyle. Stemmet, Abas’ teammate at Stanford, placed third at the 2024 U23 Nationals and was the runner-up at the event in 2022.
Stemmet has competed in one international tournament prior to this year’s event, earning a bronze medal at the 2023 Waclaw Ziolkowski Memorial in Warsaw, Poland, at the Senior level.
