Petzinger, Ryan complete their Thursday’s women’s freestyle competition at Poland Open in Warsaw

WARSAW, Poland – A pair of U.S. women wrestlers who were teammates at North Central College and are now pursuing Senior-level competition, Sydney Petzinger (53 kg) and Kendra Ryan (50 kg), completed their competition at the highly-respected Poland Open on Thursday.

Petzinger was edged by criteria in her opening bout to 2024 U23 World bronze medalist Natalia Klivhutska of Ukraine, 3-3. She rebounded in the wrestle-backs with a 10-0 technical fall over Laura Stanelyte (Lithuania, who was fifth in the 2024 U23 Europeans. Petzinger was eliminated in her next wrestle-back match by 2017 World bronze medalist Roksana Zasina of Poland, 12-2. In the final standings, Petzinger placed eighth.

Petzinger was a 2025 NCWWC national champion for North Central at 117 pounds. She is a member of the 2025-26 Senior Women’s National Team, ranked No. 3 on the national ladder at 53 kg. She was fifth at the 2025 U.S. Senior Open and third at the 2025 U23 Pan American Championships.

Ryan was leading late in her opening match against Cheon Ju-Young of Korea, but was hit with an arm throw and pinned. In her wrestle-back bout, she was pinned by two-time age-group World medalist Aida Kerymova of Ukraine.

Ryan is also a member of the 2025-26 Senior Women’s National Team, ranked No. 3 at 50 kg. She was a four-time All-American at North Central. This year, she place second at the Senior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament and third at the U.S. Senior Open.

There will be 10 more American women on the mats on Friday. Competing tomorrow will be Alyssa Mahan (57 kg), Alexis Janiak (59 kg), Brenda Reyna (59 kg), Alara Boyd (62 kg), Hanna Errthum (62 kg), Jennifer Page (65 kg), Maddie Kubicki (65 kg), Nina Makem (65 kg), Solin Piearcy (68 kg) and Elleni Johnson (68 kg).

The Wladyslaw Pytlasinski Memorial in Greco-Roman completed today, but there will be no U.S. entries this year.
