Miro Parr-Coffin (Washington) wins the 2025 U.S. Marine Corps Junior Nationals title in the 16U Greco-Roman division in Fargo, North Dakota.
FARGO, N.D.—The 2025 U.S. Marine Corps Junior Nationals have come to a close inside the Fargodome in North Dakota following the Greco-Roman tournaments. The 16U tournament saw 17 athletes crowned as national champions in the classic style on Saturday night.
Ivan Ivanov of Idaho (175) successfully went back-to-back in the 16U Greco-Roman division, dominating in the finals match to earn an 8-0 technical fall over Tate Sailer of North Dakota. Ivanov logged six consecutive technical falls prior to the championship match, outscoring his opponents 65-12 over two days.
Ivanov’s stellar performance earned him the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament award.
Ahead of the finals, there were three athletes aiming to add to their freestyle titles. Miro Parr-Coffin of Washington was the lone double champ in the 16U division, defeating Cody Bakhsh of Delaware in a 9-0 technical fall at 94 pounds. Parr-Coffin held his opponents to just seven total points across six matches, winning all by technical fall.
Washington teammate Ryder Owen secured the stop sign with an 11-0 victory in the 120-pound finals, thwarting Tommy Wurster of Ohio’s goal to double up on titles. Owen grinded out a pair of decisions en route to the finals.
Owen’s father, Brian Owen, was a 16U Greco-Roman champion in 2004 and a six-time place winner at this tournament. Two more athletes, Kacen Jones of Utah and Peter Mocco of Florida, followed in their father’s footsteps, winning national titles on Saturday night.
Jones, who was cornered by his father Cam Jones, secured a 9-0 technical fall over Zachary Donalson of Arkansas in the 113-pound final. Cam Jones was a four-time Fargo champion, winning one 16U Greco-Roman title and three Junior Greco-Roman titles.
In Mocco’s final at 190 pounds, he hit a huge five-point move that the crowd audibly enjoyed. William Etu’s corner challenged the call, looking for an offensive foul, but the challenge was lost and Mocco’s hand was raised.
Mocco’s father, Steve Mocco, was also in his son’s corner as he earned a 12-3 victory under the Fargodome lights. Steve Mocco is a 2008 Olympian for Team USA and was a four-time freestyle champion in Fargo.
Two of the championship finals saw athletes from the same state face off. At 88 pounds, Ty Martin defeated Iowa teammate Cyrus Millage, 9-0. Millage defeated Martin in a 10-3 decision earlier this week in the 16U freestyle tournament during the consolation semifinals, placing 3rd overall. Martin battled back to place fifth with a 14-8 decision in the placement match.
This was just the third all-Iowa final in 16U Greco-Roman all-time, as the last was in 2006 when Nate Moore wrestled Matt McDonough.
Including Martin, Iowa had three champions in the 16U division. Diego Robertty (106) and Lucas Feuerbach (285) added to the team score with top finishes.
In the 100-pound final, Missouri’s Wyatt Dannegger and Alexander Hall matched up against each other, with Dannegger coming out on top in an 8-0 technical fall.
At 150 pounds, Gregory Torosian spoiled Colin Rutlin’s hopes for doubling up on titles, winning a 3-1 decision. A takedown on the edge of the mat (nearly off the stage) was enough for Torosian to gain an advantage and hold on for the title. Earlier this week, Torosian placed fourth in freestyle.
Asher Bacon of Pennsylvania was one of two champions from the Keystone state. Bacon, competing at 157 pounds, found his way to the finals for the second time this week, falling short in freestyle but taking home the title in Greco-Roman. Bacon’s sister Emma won a Junior freestyle title last Sunday, marking the second time a sibling duo has one titles in the same tournament.
His Pennsylvania teammate, Caden Yanarella (138), secured back-to-back four point throws, ending a quick championship match, 8-0. Yanarella’s route to Saturday night included three technical falls and two decisions.
New Jersey’s Gideon Gonzalez successfully ended his week at the top of the podium after placing fifth in freestyle on Wednesday. Gonzalez pulled off a gritty 5-4 decision over Alaska’s Hayden Reuter in the finals at 144 pounds.
Gage Ponton of Idaho and Gage Bjerga of Minnesota wrapped up their time in Fargo with 16U Greco-Roman titles. Ponton secured a 7-3 decision over Xander Horak of Ohio at 215 pounds, while Bjerga held off Blake Nevils of Idaho, 10-2.
Robert Ruscitti of Illinois also had a close finals match, with a headlock turning the tide of the match. Ruscitti blitzed Cooper Mathews of Colorado and held on to win 5-4. Harrison Smith of Nevada added to his state’s Greco-Roman success, pinning Braylon Stewart of Louisiana in the finals at 165 pounds.
Iowa won the team title, scoring 138 points. There were four teams that tied for second place with 94 points – Washington, Utah, Idaho and Pennsylvania. California and Illinois finished sixth with 87 points apiece.
