Manheim, Pennsylvania – A record-tying crowd saw top-ranked Penn State improve to 10-0 on Friday night at the Bryce Jordan Center as the host Nittany Lions defeated then-No. 2 Iowa 30-8. The win preserved Penn State’s dual meet win streak and kept them atop the most recent NWCA Division I Men’s Wrestling Coaches Poll, released Tuesday.
The 15,998 in attendance at the BJC ties the NCAA Division I record for the largest indoor crowd for a dual meet, a mark Penn State has reached on two other occasions – in 2023 and initially in 2018. Both duals were against the Hawkeyes. The loss, coupled with Oklahoma State’s win over the weekend, dropped Iowa to third this week.
Oklahoma State improved to 12-0 with a 36-3 win over then-No. 20 Missouri. The fifth-largest crowd in Gallagher-Iba Arena history (10,740) helped the Cowboys set a single-season attendance record with an average attendance of 7,597 in David Taylor’s first year as the program’s head coach.
Ohio State (12-1) remained No. 4 after a 25-14 win over No. 19 Michigan, while No. 5 Northern Iowa beat then-No. 21 West Virginia 29-10 in Morgantown. No. 6 NC State edged No. 18 North Carolina 19-16 in the ACC, while Nebraska, Minnesota, Cornell, and Virginia Tech all rolled through their opponents and remained steady in the Top 10.
Lehigh returned to the Top 25 after a one-week absence. The Mountain Hawks defeated then-No. 24 Army West Point 27-10 and climbed back to No. 23 this week. Army West Point slid one spot to No. 25.
Methodology: The NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll is voted on by two coaches from each Division I wrestling conference. Each first-place vote is worth 25 points, 24 points for a second-place vote, 23 points for a third-place vote, and so on, through to one point for a 25th-place vote. The poll is based on dual meet results.
