ASUNCION, Paraguay – The U.S. men’s freestyle team capped off the 2025 Junior Pan American Games with a hefty medal haul. All six Americans made the finals with five claiming gold medals.

Three-time age-group World medalist and U.S. Open champion Mitchell Mesenbrink led the way for Team USA with three technical falls in three matches, outscoring his opponents a combined 32-0. He defeated 2025 U23 Pan American champion Orislandy Perdomo Brooks of Cuba in the gold medal match, 10-0.

Also defeating opponents from Cuba in the championship round were Rocco Welsh at 86 kg and Tommy Dineen at 97 kg. Welsh won a sound 5-2 contest over 2025 U23 Pan American champion Geannis Garzon Tamayo to become a two-time Junior Pan Am Games champion (2021). Dineen exploded to a 10-0 technical fall on Darrell Lee Galloso for his title.

Similar to Mesenbrink, two-time age-group World medalist Bo Bassett tuned up the 65 kg field with straight techs. Bassett took down Eligh Rivera of Puerto Rico, 11-0, for the gold medal.

A pair of Army West Point Wrestling Club athletes represented well in Paraguay. Lucas Stoddard went undefeated on his way to the 125 kg title. Charlie Farmer battled to a silver medal at 57 kg.

Under the traditional UWW scoring system, the U.S. sailed away with the team title at 145 points. Cuba came in second place with four medalists and 95 points. Puerto Rico picked up three medals and 76 points to finish in third place.
