Ultimate Club Duals Fall Championships: Wyoming Seminary wins girls division, Meatballs claim boys division.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – One of the largest and most respected club dual meet competitions is the Ultimate Club Duals, which kicks off the new high school year with a massive preseason event. This year’s version was held at the Nittany Valley Sports Centre, September 13-15, and featured 24 girls elite teams, 21 boys high school elite teams and 13 boys K-8 elite teams.
The girls division always features dozens of nationally ranked individual wrestlers, as well as club teams that are successful year after year. The girls champions this year was the Wyoming Seminary Women, who stopped a loaded MGW Death by Chocolate team 55-32 in the finals. There were 10 nationally ranked high school wrestlers in the finals alone. Wyoming Seminary jumped to a big lead in the lightest weights, which feature youth athletes, claiming five of the first six bouts, a lead which was stretched in the higher divisions. Nationally ranked winners for SEM in the finals duals included #11 Amelia Murphy (53 kg), #14 Mary Manis (58 kg), #5 Taina McGowan (61 kg), #3 Isis France (63 kg). Nationally ranked winners for MGW Death by Chocolate were #2 Julia Horger (50 kg), #3 Charlotte Gilfoil (66 kg), #9 Ella Poalillo (71 kg) and #2 Kaylie Hall (76 kg).
Two big matches of note in the finals dual included Horger’s pin of #2 ranked and 2023 U17 World bronze medalist Jaclyn Bouzakis at 50 kg. Young Emma Grimes of Wyoming Seminary pinned #1 ranked Savannah Witt at 56 kg.
In the boys elite division, the Meatballs defeated NC United in the championship dual, 48-22. The Meatballs ran off seven wins in the first eight matches, and never looked back. Scoring pins for the Meatballs in the finals wee Kooper Deputy (95 lbs.) and Austin Bernash (109 lbs.). The Meatballs got technical falls from Luke Sipes (163 lbs.) and Asher Cunningham (175 lbs.). NC United had pins from Mason Brown (103) and Brock Sullivan (195).
