Preseason Nationals Girls High School division is loaded, with 97 ranked stars registered for Des Moines

The USA Wrestling Preseason Nationals will once again have a loaded Girls high school division (grades 9-12), giving all of the athletes entered a high-quality competition which will have a major impact on the national rankings. The division, which is now sold out, will be held in its entirety on Sunday, October 27 at Hyvee Hall at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Out of the 535 wrestlers in the tournament, there are 97 wrestlers who are ranked in the Preseason National Girls High School Rankings, and numerous others who are high on the watchlist and may be ranked soon.
There are 11 athletes who hold a top-5 individual ranking in the preseason, led by Brooke Huffman of Wisconsin, who is currently No. 1 at 190 pounds. Two No. 2 ranked athletes, Samantha Sachs of California and Violette Lasure of Pennyslvania, are entered with Sachs at 130 pounds and Lasure at 145 pounds in Des Moines.
The No. 3 ranked athletes in the tournament are Katey Valdez of Colorado, wrestling at 105 pounds, and Aleksandra Bastaic of Indiana, entered at 145 pounds. Coming in with No. 4 rankings are Louise Juitt of Missouri, entered at 140, Josephine Larson of Illinois, competing at 190 and Keilikki Nau Rarick of Utah, wrestling at 235. There are three No. 5 ranked athletes in the draw, Sierra Chiesa of Pennyslvania at 125, Amelia Fawcett of Alaska at 145 and Jael Miller of Pennsylvania at 170.
The deepest weight class is 145 pounds, which features 11 ranked athletes, including No. 2 Lasure, No. 3 Bastaic and No. 5 Fawcett. The others with national rankings in the weight are No. 6 Jayda Fulp of Texas, No. 11 Maggie Ortmann of Missouri, No. 11 Chloe Sanders of Iowa, No. 20 Elise Twait of Idaho, No. 24 Veronica Madrid of Kansas, No. 27 Sally Johnson of Tennessee, No. 28 Nanda Kibi of Michigan and No. 30 Ryen Hickey of Colorado.
There are seven returning champions who are entered, seeking to repeat: Katey Valdez of Colorado (100, competing at 105), Ava Peters of Wisconsin (110), Riley Rayome of Texas (115), Sierra Chiesa of Pennsylvania (120, competing at 125), Riley Hanrahan of Wisconsin (130, competing at 140), Emma Chacon of Arizona (135, competing at 130) and Mia Cienega of Washington (235, competing at 190).
Runners-up from last year’s Brian Keck Preseason Nationals in the draw, with the weight they are entered, include Jubilee Rendon of Texas (100), Alicia Serratos of California (115), Brissa Bernal of Oklahoma (125), Lilyana Balderas of California (125) and Chloe Hoselton of Illinois (235).
The event will have a substantial impact on the next National Girls High School Rankings, which will be updated in November.
In addition to the Grade 9-12 division, there will be three other girls divisions at the Brian Keck Memorial Preseason Nationals (1st-2nd Grade, 3rd-5th Grade, Middle School (6th-8th Grade). All of the Girls divisions will utilize the USA Wrestling Girls Folkstyle Rule Modifications for 2024-25, which include a step-out point and a neutral start for each period.
There will also be seven boys divisions, including the Boys National High School Recruiting Showcase, an elite high school event in which all entries must meet specific achievement standards. The other boys divisions are 1st-2nd Grade, 3rd-4th Grade, 5th-6th Grade, Middle School (7th-8th Grade), High School 9th-10th Grade and High School 11th-12th Grade.
All of the divisions at the 2024 Brian Keck Memorial Preseason Nationals are sold out.
