DUBUQUE, Iowa – A talented squad from Northern Michigan took seven-of-11 matches from Dubuque RTC / International All Stars to claim the second annual WIBN Dubuque RTC Duals Showcase, 26-19.
Kenneth Crosby and Jayden Tadeo-Gosal led the way for the Andy Bisek-coached Northern Michigan bunch. Both men scored 8-0 technical falls, Crosby at 55 kg and Tadeo-Gosal at 87 kg.
Crosby, who defeated 2023 U20 World Team Trials placer Tyler Klein, was runner-up at the recent Senior World Team Trials at 55 kg. In addition, he was a 2023 U20 Nationals champion and placed second in the 2023 U20 World Team Trials.
Headliner Landon Drury, a fifth-place finisher at the 2023 U20 World Championships, received a forfeit at 63 kg for Northern Michigan. However, he took one on the chin, 9-0, in the second-to-last bout of the dual after bumping up to face past U17 European medalist Rakhmonov Khusein at 67 kg.
Patrick Curran impressed with two match wins during the event. He took out Zane Pannell, 8-5, at 82 kg, then iced the dual with a 5-4 decision over Slobodenluk Aleksandr at 77 kg in the final bout of the evening.
Also scoring wins for Northern Michigan were Charlie McKune at 72 kg and Jimmy Hustoles at 130 kg.
The Dubuque RTC / International All Stars had three athletes pick up wins, none more impressive than Eli Pannell’s one-minute pin against Daniel Eubanks at 97 kg.
In addition to his victory over Drury, Rakhmonov earned a second 9-0 technical fall over Lukas Kanownik, also at 67 kg. Rakhmonov accounted for eight of Dubuque’s 19 team points.
Slobodenluk Aleksandr finished with a 1-1 record on the day at 77 kg with a 4-3 decision against Riley Briggs to offset his one-point loss to Curran.
