2024 Greg Strobel Leadership Academy fundraiser was another big success
by Greg Strobel Leadership Academy
The Greg Strobel 30-Day Challenge continues to provide an opportunity to participate in a cause that honors the messages and teachings Greg valued and stood for throughout his life, which provides the foundation for the Greg Strobel Leadership Academy (GSLA).
With the support of challenge participants and generous supporters, this year’s Challenge raised over $13,300. It was because of everyone’s effort, dedication, and passion that it was another great 30-days!
This event continues to be a tremendous experience for everyone involved, including Greg’s family, friends, colleagues, Challenge participants and supporters, and countless others in the wrestling community.
Below are a few comments about the Challenge and support for the Greg Strobel Leadership Academy:
“I always look forward to competing in the 30-Day GSLA challenge. In a world filled with modern conveniences, a little struggle is a good thing period. It also gives me the time to reflect on all the positive memories of Coach and all of my Lehigh teammates. I was truly blessed to wrestle under Coach and it is an honor to keep his memory alive by participating in this challenge.”
~ Derek Zinck, Greg Strobel Leadership Academy challenge participant and donor 2021-2024
“As a coach educator, I often reflect on the quote, ‘Under pressure, you don't rise to the occasion, you sink to the level of your training.’ GSLA supports USA Wrestling by creating new collaborations and strategic partnerships, we support the well-being of our athletes and members, and we help expand the margin of excellence by helping share resources to develop World-Class Humans. Through efforts to develop more self-awareness and intentionality, we can all continue to learn, share, and grow better together as a sport, as a nation, and as a global society.”
~ Mike Clayton, USA Wrestling National Coaches Education Program Manager
Funds raised will go directly to the Greg Strobel Leadership Academy, which has been created to continue Greg’s legacy of teaching others and unleashing human potential in all areas of life for current and future National Team athletes.
Founded on the core beliefs of one of our sport’s greatest athletes and coaches, the Greg Strobel Leadership Academy is a training and development program focused on supporting all members of USA Wrestling with a focus on bridging any gaps for our Senior Level athlete’s needs.
Looking ahead, the GSLA will remain focused on the strategic focus of collaboration and strategic partnerships; athlete’s support, involvement, and well-being; women's participation; organizational and competitive excellence; and customer experience and engagement. A curriculum/speaker series is in development, as well as provisional resources, and a continued partnership with the Athlete Advisory Council (AAC).
As such, the GSLA will continue granting the annual leadership award (to be presented at the US Open annually). This year’s GSLA Leadership Award recipients were Mallory Velte and John Stefanowicz. Mallory’s achievements on the mat include being a two-time bronze medalist at the World Championships and a Pan American gold medalist. John Stefanowicz is a two-time gold medalist at the Pan American Championships and competed at the 2020 Olympic Games. Notably, their leadership and being the voice of all USA wrestling athletes and both serve as exceptional leaders.
