Returning champion Shabazz among quarterfinalists at Brian Keck Memorial Preseason Nationals in the Boys Grade 11-12 division

DES MOINES, Iowa - The quarterfinals have been set in the Boys Grade 11-12 division at the 2023 Brian Keck Memorial Preseason Nationals, which began on Friday afternoon at Hyvee Hall at the Iowa Events Center.

Raekwon Shabazz of Connecticut is the only returning champion in this division who has reached the quarterfinals this year, with a chance to repeat. Shabazz will face Ashton Grace of Moyer Elite Wrestling in the quarterfinals at 113 pounds. Shabazz was the 106-pound champion last year.

Brent Slade, Jr. of the Moen Wrestling Academy), who won the Boys National Recruiting Showcase last year at 170 pounds, entered the Preseason Nationals this year in Grades 11-12, and has reached the quarterfinals at 190 pounds.

Caden Correll of Illinois, a Preseason Nationals champion in the 9-10 Grade division last year, reached the 106 pound quarterfinals in the 11^th-12^th Grade division this year. Correll is also in the quarterfinals at 106 pounds in the Boys National High School Recruiting Showcase, as he is competing in two divisions this weekend.

Another champion in Grades 9-10 last year who advanced to the quarterfinals in Grades 11-12 this year is Luke James of Seasons Freestyle Club at 175 pounds.

The quarterfinals will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.
