Twenty five returning medalists among group to compete at 2023 Veterans Worlds, October 17-22

The 2023 Veterans World Championships begin on October 17 as a strong group of 60 athletes will travel to Loutraki, Greece to compete in the event. Thirty-five athletes are set to compete in both styles, 14 will compete in freestyle and 11 will compete in Greco-Roman.


There are 25 returning medalists from last year’s event. The United States earned at total of 36 medals across both freestyle and Greco-Roman in 2022, placing first in the medal count. Turkey, Kazakhstan, Sweden and Germany round out the top five medal-earning countries at the 2022 tournament. Fourteen returning freestyle medalists are registered to compete this year in both styles. There are 11 Greco-Roman medalists that are returning to the mat in Loutraki this year.


The 14 returning medalists in freestyle include Rashaad Saunders, James Medeiros, David Yi, Robinson Prebish, Thomas Donahue, William Anderson, Rudy James, Gabe Beauperthuy, George Porter, Stephen Horton, Petros Petrosyan, Jeffrey Anderson, James Miller and

Charles Jones.


The 11 returning medalists in Greco-Roman are Ronald Dombrowski, Andrei Stashonak, Gerald Harris, David Yi, Rudy James, Alvin Riggs, Gabe Beauparthy, Domenico Lemme, George Porter, Jeffrey Anderson and Brian Jones.


The U.S. also had five athletes that earned medals in both styles at the 2022 Veterans World Championships: James Anderson (silver in freestyle, gold in Greco-Roman at 88 kg), Gabe Beauperthuy (bronze in freestyle, silver in Greco-Roman at 130 kg), Rudy James (silver in freestyle, bronze in Greco-Roman at 78 kg), George Porter (gold in freestyle, silver in Greco-Roman at 130 kg) and David Yi (gold in both freestyle and Greco-Roman at 62 kg).


Loutraki is seven hours ahead of the U.S. Eastern time zone. The event will be broadcast live by FloWrestling.
